One of five P-61C aircraft assigned to the Thunderstorm Project, a joint weather research program operated by the U.S. Army Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Weather Bureau and NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics). The aircraft were assigned to the Armyâs All Weather Flying Center, located at Clinton County Army Airfield near Wilmington, Ohio. Early research flights were made near Orlando, Florida in the summer of 1946, while later flights were made in Ohio from May to September, 1947. USAAF photo.
