Photographed in the static display during Air Tournament International 92 at Boscombe, this Atlantique 2 is based at Lorient Lann-Bihoué with 23F. The squadron has operated the Atlantique since April 1972, re-equipping with the latest ATL-2 variant in February 1991, the aircraft is primarily an anti-submarine warfare platform but is also used for anti-surface missions and the protection and screening of French nuclear ballistic missile submarines. The second generation ATL-2 version of the Atlantique came into service in 1989, although little different in appearance to the original Atlantique, this version is equipped with a new radar, sonar processor, tactical computer, uprated avionics and a Forward Looking Infra-Red (FLIR) turret under the nose.
